If what is simple
is beautiful
and what is beautiful
complex
then,
to have simplicity
is to hold complexity

Ken Conzelmann is a New York registered architect since 1990 and principal of OWO Architects, co-founded with Karla Fernandes in 2005. He serves with tenure on the faculty at CUNY in the Department of Architectural Technology at City Tech in downtown Brooklyn where he has been teaching since 1991. He discovered early on that education and practice were distinct, yet interdependent realms, which together offered a potent synergy. As a full time faculty member, Professor Conzelmann is also director of the Architectural Internship program, invites architects and thinkers of many backgrounds to speak for the student architecture club talk series, and continues as a regular guest design critic and speaker at City Tech and beyond. He also served as a member of the Board of Directors and co-chair of the Special Design Awards Committee for SARA|NY, from 2008-2018.
Prior to OWO, Ken had the opportunity to participate in a full spectrum of roles and work settings from freelance consultation with small to large firms and organizations, to project architect with a major government design and construction agency, to project manager with a global corporate design enterprise. This broad exposure allowed for engagement on a wide range of projects and design genres, resulting in a varied and expansive portfolio for him to share with clients, students, and colleagues.
Ken holds a Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) from NJIT and a GradDipl (MArch) in History/Theory from The AA, The Architectural Association in London.
Born and raised in the NYC area to immigrant parents, Ken has studied and worked in England, Germany and Austria, and has lived in the West Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan since 1987. He enjoys spending time and energy tinkering at his forest cabin in Greene County upstate NY, where ideas can be fleshed out and tested in the fresh air, and quietude.
